Tuesday, 24th March 21, 2015….Kenya Tourism Board (KTB) has set out a programme to host journalists and tour operators from Italy, UK and France as part of its global media campaigns on destination reassurance.
This week, at least six journalists from key media outlets landed in the country and started off their tour of Kenya’s attractions with Masai Mara, Naivasha, Amboseli and Nairobi. Journalists and trade from UK and France will be hosted in the country within the next few weeks.
According to KTB Managing Director, Muriithi Ndegwa, the familiarization trips are part of ongoing initiatives geared toward tourism sector recovery that has recorded a drop in numbers owing to insecurity and Ebola threat among other challenges.
“KTB has been organizing several familiarization trips targeting media in key source markets, Italy, UK and France are among the source markets we are targeting as part of our global media campaigns,” says Ndegwa.
In a bid to raise awareness of Kenya as a golfing destination, Kenya last week hosted golf writers representing countries; Czech Republic, Germany, Denmark, Finland, Netherlands, Sweden, China, UK and Ireland.
Ndegwa pointed out that the government through the Tourism Recovery Task Force has put in place a number of measures to mitigate the declining tourist numbers.
As part of the recovery measures, Ndegwa added, the government has set aside over Kshs140 million shillings for global advertisement campaigns and Charter airline promotions.
“These media campaigns set to kick off in the next month will target key international media outlets mostly in our key source markets namely; Europe, America, Asia, Africa, and the rest of the potential markets to Kenya”, disclosed the Managing Director.
