Kenyan athletes raise destination profile

National Olympic of Kenya (Nock) President Dr. Kipchoge Keino has lauded Kenyan athletes for their immense contribution in the marketing of the country as a destination to visit.

He said international sporting activities have placed the country on the global map and appealed to the sports men and woman to continue with their spirit of patriotism in a bid to sustain the country’s brand equity.

“Your presence in international games is enough endorsement of Kenya to the world, you are our brand ambassadors and I wish you all the best in Rio,” said Keino.

He was speaking at Kipchoge Keino high altitude training camp during prayers and a send off dinner for athletes who have been training in the camp in preparation for Rio Olympics set for next month.

Kenya Tourism Board (KTB) Acting Chief Executive Officer Jacinta Nzioka-Mbithi said the top of mind awareness of Kenya as the destination to visit has been heavily reinforced by the athletes who have won several medals in international competitions.

“Our sports people have made us shine in international competition, their presence in these games have raised Kenya’s brand awareness and therefore making our marketing activities easier and heavily complimented,” said Jacinta.

She said KTB will look into ways of collaborating with National Olympics of Kenya and athletics Kenya to ride on athletes and market Kenya as a preferred destination to visit.

She lauded investors on training and sporting camps in the region noting that the training facilities have provided an opportunity for the development of world beating athletes besides attracting many runners across the world.

Uasin Gishu Deputy Governor Daniel Chepno appealed to corporate institutions to invest on sponsoring the athletes as recognition of their contributions to country’s positive brand visibility.

“We all want to share victory with these athletes and I appeal to sponsors to make their contributions by sponsoring our team Kenya”, he said.
