KTB CEO June Chepkemei Named Among Africa's 50 Most Influential CEOs
Kenya Tourism Board (KTB) Chief Executive Officer June Chepkemei has been listed as one of Africa's 50 Most Influential CEOs for 2025.
The prestigious honor is awarded annually by Africapitol Ventures, recognizing inspiring and high-performing CEOs making a difference across the continent.
The 50 Most Influential CEOs listing engages the foremost business, cultural, political and other leaders of society to shape regional and industry agendas. Honorees are selected based on their professional accomplishments and demonstrated leadership over the past year.
As the head of Kenya's tourism marketing agency, June Chepkemei, in less than a year of her stint in office, has spearheaded strategic initiatives to strengthen Kenya's tourism sector, promote sustainable practices and diversify tourism offerings. Under her leadership, KTB launched innovative marketing campaigns targeting new source markets as well as engaged in partnerships with the private sector, travel trade and county governments to boost tourist arrivals.
Commenting on the recognition, Chepkemei said, "It is an honour to be named amongst Africa's most influential CEOs. This acknowledges the tremendous work by our team at KTB to make Kenya a highly preferred destination."
"As we move forward, I remain committed to working with all stakeholders to further develop Kenya's tourism sector, improve competitiveness and create more opportunities for local communities," she added.
Some of the latest initiatives include impactful the successful launch of the “Ziara Kenya: One Diaspora, One Tourist” campaign last year to rally Kenyans abroad to encourage visitation to Kenya. This is in addition to the CEOs focus on adventure tourism which supported the creation of the Kenya Adventure Tourism Product Club, working with various experience owners to market Kenya's adventure offerings globally.
Prior to joining KTB, Chepkemei served as Managing Director of Kenya Investment Authority, Head of Marketing & Communications at Konza Technopolis Development Authority and Communications Business Partner at Safaricom Ltd.
Her academic credentials include a Master's in Communication Studies from Moi University and a Postgraduate Diploma in Marketing from the Chartered Institute of Marketing, UK. She is pursuing a Ph.D. in Information Science and is a member of the Public Relations Society of Kenya.
The 50 Most Influential CEOs recognition adds to the KTB CEO's list of accolades including Top 25 Women in Digital 2021 and Top 40 Under 40 Women in Kenya 2023. She was also part of the Taskforce on Kenya Media Policy Guidelines.
